Specially tailored to suit the location, the type of waste and local needs, our services use targeted logistics to optimize collection rounds: selective collection, including kerbside services; a fleet of high-performance environmentally-friendly vehicles; on-board computing systems, etc. In Philippines, the subsidiary of VES Asia is currently servicing the most number of local government units in Metro Manila. The main activities are domestic waste collection for 4 cities and 1 municipality and waste collection for private residential and commercial establishments. We also have waste collection services in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore.
Selective, economically attractive and environmentally-friendly collection
Combined with source separation, our selective collection services enable us to reduce management costs whilst being more environmentally-friendly: separated at the earliest possible stage, each type of waste (bulky waste, household waste, non-hazardous industrial waste, green waste, etc.) is sent to the most appropriate treatment facility in order to be recovered or recycled. In Norway, for example, 40 categories of dry waste are thus recovered, whilst in Great Britain, introducing a kerbside selective collection service has helped to improve the household waste recycling rate.
Specially-designed clean-fuel transportation solutions
Our made-to-measure solutions notably rely on the use of specially-designed vehicles to curb pollution and optimize collection rounds. In Paris, we have introduced a fleet of 104 NGVs (Natural Gas Vehicles) that are twice as quiet as diesel-powered vehicles and generate half the amount of pollution. At Warringah in Australia, we use dual compartment waste collection vehicles to reduce the number of rounds. In London, as well as in several rural French communities, we have introduced automated side loader waste vehicles to improve collection safety. In Reunion Island, a helicopter collects waste from a site that is inaccessible by road or rail.
Quality through technology
Besides using specially-designed and sometimes spectacular vehicles, we also optimize our collection rounds with the help of state-of-the-art computing systems. In Paris and Norway, for example, our vehicles are equipped with on-board systems that guide drivers on their rounds and identify alternative routes if necessary. We also use a number of software packages that record each client’s specific details: pickup points, type of waste, type of collection equipment, etc. These software packages also guarantee the traceability of the services we provide, giving clients and drivers real-time collection round progress reports and measuring the performance of our services, etc.
Informing consumers and raising their awareness
It’s everyone’s responsibility to keep the planet clean, so we support municipalities in their work to keep local populations informed. In the French town of Antony, for example, we have launched various operations in schools and in the town centre to raise local inhabitants’ awareness of a new selective collection service for recyclable packaging. In Great Britain, meanwhile, we have helped the city of Portsmouth to communicate on the source separation of household waste, holding an open day in our recycling centre, addressing the needs of those with disabilities, and providing information in a number of different languages, etc.
