Project background

Veolia Environmental Services (VES) and its local partner jointly founded Hangzhou Zhong Jia Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. (Zhong Jia) on 26th March, 1996. Zhong Jia was awarded the design, construction, as well as operation and maintenance contact of Hangzhou Tianziling Landfill Gas-to-Energy Plant, with all the technologies and capital invested by VES. The plant extracts gas from Hangzhou Tianziling Landfill, purifies it and generates power. This is the first landfill gas-to-energy project in mainland China. Its construction started in April 1998, and finished in August 1998. Zhong Jia started to sell the power generated in October 1998.

Veolia-ES's excellence

Advanced technology, processing and equipment are Zhong Jia's mail characters. The whole facility comprises of four systems including gas collection, gas compression & purification, gas engine/generator and grid connection system.

Perfect environmental protection measures are Zhong Jia's another character. The plant itself is already an environmental protection project reducing the landfill gas pollution. Based on advanced environmental protection concept, Zhong Jia has established clean processing and closed air cooling systems, realizing zero discharge of waste water and solid waste and the emission of gas meets the national standard.

Advanced objective management is Zhong Jia's third character. The result focus and the humanized concept form the base of the company's management. Strict technical training and examination, explicit responsibility, distinct award and penalty system fully stimulated each staff's motivation.

For the past years, the plant has been operating efficiently under full load. By the end of 2008, the plant has collected and treated 107 million M3 of landfill gas and generated 150 million kWh of energy, realizing harmless treatment of landfill gas and integrated utilization of resources, making its share of contribution to the community and the environment.
